August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day, a time to remember those who lost their lives to substance use and also a time to acknowledge those who struggle and support those in recovery. Last year, Carrie Zeigler, a Peer Recovery Coach for Catholic Human Services, helped to promote a Butterfly Release event that helped to bring awareness to substance use disorder (SUD) and provide education. Over 100 people from the community attended the event. This year the event will be taking place on August 30 from 4-6pm at the Cadillac Rotary Pavilion. The speaker will be Brad Schero, a Crisis Intervention Officer for Munson Healthcare, with a message on ending the stigma surrounding SUD. There will be many community organizations at the event that can answer questions and provide resources and support to those in need.
