Up North Prevention Values its Alcona Partners

Up North Prevention staff member Les Thomas is able to partner in numerous in-school and after-school activities thanks to strong collaborations with school organizations, the athletic department, and school administration.

One particularly valuable partnership is with the Alcona Junior National Honor Society and its advisor, Helen-Ann Cordes. Cordes and Principal Dr. Morris frequently collaborate with prevention staff to help plan and support events throughout the school year, including school dances, pre-college trips, assemblies, staff meetings, and other recreational activities.

Through these partnerships, Thomas is able to provide resources, materials, and giveaways that enhance student engagement while connecting youth to educational information and substance-free messaging. By being actively involved in a variety of school events, prevention staff can build positive relationships with students, increase awareness of healthy lifestyle choices, and reinforce the importance of making safe, responsible decisions.

These ongoing collaborations help create a supportive school environment where prevention messages are integrated into everyday activities and students are encouraged to stay connected, engaged, and substance-free.
