Saturday, April 26th was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and Up North Prevention was proud to assist local law enforcement agencies in safely disposing of unused and expired prescription medications.
Thanks to a newly acquired mobile unit, a significant quantity of medications was transported to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Flint. The following law enforcement agencies participated in the event:
Alcona County Sheriff’s Office: 88.8 lbs
Iosco County Sheriff’s Office: 83.4 lbs
Montmorency County Sheriff’s Office: 10.14 lbs
Crawford County Sheriff’s Office: 151 lbs
Alpena County Sheriff’s Office: 36.2 lbs
Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Office: 105 lbs
In total, 474.54 pounds of unwanted or expired prescription medications were delivered to the DEA. The collected medications were immediately turned over to waiting Army National Guard personnel, who transported them to a specialized disposal site in Indiana.
Up North Prevention is proud to support this important initiative and looks forward to continuing this service while further strengthening partnerships with local public safety and health agencies.
