Alcona students participated in a three-week day camp session that explored a variety of hobbies, recreational activities, and life skills. The group, made up of 15 middle and high school students, came to school (willingly) to kick off the summer by learning about Michigan history, Native American traditional skills, woodworking, art and design, and cooking, while also spending time each day playing games and getting exercise.
The three weeks were filled with hands-on learning activities, field trips to local attractions, and plenty of time spent outdoors. This project was supported by a grant from the Michigan Department of Education, written by Inspiration Alcona and co-sponsored by Alcona Schools and Up North Prevention.
