Rogers City Students Leading Students (SLS) hosted a fun and engaging Race Day event with elementary students as part of their Strive for a Safer Drive campaign. Students in grades K–5 had the opportunity to race against one another while learning important lessons about being safe passengers in vehicles and on the school bus.
Although these students aren’t drivers yet, they learned how their behavior as passengers can make a big difference by helping eliminate distractions for both bus drivers and the drivers of any vehicle they ride in. Throughout the event, students were reminded that being respectful, staying seated, and following safety rules helps keep everyone safe.
Each student received a variety of race-themed items, including a toy race car, a VIP pass lanyard, a race bracelet, and a race hat. The event also featured a “pit meeting,” where students reviewed bus and vehicle passenger safety rules before participating in the races.
This day-long event gave every class from kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to participate and enjoy a memorable experience while learning valuable safety skills.
