Promoting Safe Medication Disposal: A New Partnership with Hentkowski Funeral Home

Up North Prevention is proud to announce a new collaboration with Laura Hentkowski of Hentkowski Funeral Home, focused on promoting the safe, simple, and responsible disposal of unused medications. As part of this partnership, Deterra drug deactivation pouches will be made available to families who have recently lost a loved one and may be left with unneeded medications.

The Deterra system offers a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of prescription drugs. The small pouch can hold up to 15 pills, while the large version holds up to 45. This initiative helps prevent these medications from falling into the wrong hands—an important step in preventing substance misuse in our communities.

In addition to distributing Deterra pouches, Up North Prevention is also promoting the use of cannabis lock bags. With the legalization of cannabis and the growing availability of products like gummies—often mistaken for candy by children—secure storage is more important than ever. Even in homes without children, taking precautions with any form of medication or substance is a smart and responsible choice.

Up North Prevention is grateful for this partnership with Hentkowski Funeral Home and looks forward to working with more community partners in the ongoing effort to make Presque Isle County a safer place for all families. For more information, please contact Connie at 989-590-7896.
