Prevention Work on the Manistee River

Once again, the Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition and the Kalkaska Conservation District teamed up to offer fun, healthy, and educational activities to Kalkaska High School students. In May, the two non-profit organizations took a brisk 4-hour trip down the Manistee River with the students. These types of activities teach our youth how to work together, make good choices, and how outdoor activities can improve mental and physical health. A couple of the students learned that if you make the wrong choice on the river, you can end up in the chilly water. The coalition and the conservation district provided everything needed for this activity and the students had a great time. More healthy alternative activities are being planned for over the summer to engage Kalkaska youth.
