Look What Recovery Can Do

The third annual Talents of Recovery Up North provided an opportunity to show our community what is possible in recovery. At the heart of the event is a celebration of the talents, passions, businesses, and accomplishments of people in recovery. This year’s participants included a musician, chef, tattoo artist, author sharing their personal story, talented crafters, and several recovery support organizations.

Together, they demonstrated that recovery can mean so much more than overcoming substance use. It can mean discovering your talents, pursuing your passions, building a business, finding purpose, and creating a life you are proud of, in other words, finding your Natural High.

Our hope is that someone struggling with a substance use disorder might attend the event, see what others are accomplishing in recovery, connect with a recovery support organization, and realize that a fulfilling future is possible for them, too. The event also gives our community an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many contributions of people in recovery.

This year, we were once again proud to give back to local youth. Donations for food and refreshments benefited the Kalkaska High School and Middle School Talent Show, creating a meaningful connection between celebrating recovery and talent and supporting the next generation in our community.

As we look ahead to our fourth year, we want even more of our community to be part of it. We invite people to come out and support participating individuals and businesses, share their own talents, volunteer, and help us continue building an event that brings our community together.

With September becoming increasingly busy with recovery events throughout the region, Talents of Recovery Up North is planning to move to June in 2027. We hope this change will give more people the opportunity to participate and help the event grow into an even stronger celebration of recovery, talent, entrepreneurship, community, and giving back.
