Crawford County Drug Free Coalition Participating in Retail Alcohol Data Collection

The Crawford Partnership to End Substance Misuse actively participated in a nationwide data collection initiative organized by the Michigan Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking. The purpose of this effort was to gather and analyze data regarding alcohol products that appeal to youth, with a particular focus on pricing and packaging.

The collected data revealed that alcohol products are available at extremely low prices, with consumers able to purchase four alcoholic drinks for under $11. This pricing strategy, coupled with attractive packaging, suggests a deliberate effort by manufacturers or retailers to encourage youth consumption through affordability and visual appeal.

These findings contribute to a broader understanding of how economic and marketing factors may influence underage drinking behaviors, and they support ongoing prevention efforts aimed at reducing youth access to alcohol.
