Building Stronger Communities Through Prevention Partnerships

The Montmorency Substance Free Coalition and Up North Prevention recently teamed up to bring prevention focused outreach and resources to families during the Hillman and Atlanta school open house activities. The two organizations connected with students, parents, caregivers, and community members while sharing information about substance use prevention, healthy choices, and resources available throughout Montmorency County. As part of the outreach, the organizations invited the Michigan State Police to participate. Troopers brought the Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer, providing an interactive educational experience designed to help parents and caregivers recognize potential signs of substance use and learn more about current trends and risks facing young people.

Having community prevention organizations and law enforcement working alongside schools created an opportunity for meaningful conversations with families. Attendees were able to ask questions, learn about available resources, and gain a greater understanding of the importance of early prevention and communication. Partnerships like these are an important part of building a healthier Montmorency County, as prevention is most effective when schools, families, community organizations, and local partners work together to educate, support, and empower young people.
