Kaelie Fessler joins UP North Prevention with nearly 30 years of experience in both traditional and non-traditional education. As a lifelong resident of Presque Isle County, and the mother of three young adults, she has a passion for people and their physical and mental health. With a deep-respect for our natural resources and outdoor recreation, Kaelie believes that nature improves physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and looks forward to continuing to guide youth and

Stephanie came to prevention after years of working in the non-profit sector in Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties. She just completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2022 and will be continuing on to complete her Masters's degree. Prevention means a lot to her as she has experienced loss due to substance abuse. As a mother of two young children, she is passionate about helping make changes within the community to help support our youth. She hopes to make a difference


Learning about Fentanyl
Up North Prevention, the Leelanau Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition, and Leelanau Investing for Teens (LIFT) are partnering to educate Leelanau County High School students about fentanyl. Traverse City West Senior High Mental Health Summit
Traverse City West Senior High’s Mental Health Summit took place on March 1; the day consisted of speakers each hour during the school day and resource tables from local organizations during the lunch hours. The Grand Traverse County Drug Free Coalition presented; the presentation began with the students viewing the Predator and Predator documentary. This documentary was created by East Middle School Digital Media Students in 2018 to showcase the opioid crisis in our area. Th


Up North Prevention's Debut of the Selfie 360 Machine
Tawas' Snowcoming dance took place on Saturday, February 25. Approximately 150 students attended and tried out the new selfie 360 machine purchased through a grant received from Prevention Network and the Northern Michigan Regional Entity. This is used to positively engage youth in substance free/fun activities. The selfie 360 machine is expected to make its rounds in Northern Michigan with one available on the west and east sides.


The Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition Provides Community Education Through Billboards
Throughout this last year, the Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition has displayed prevention messaging to the community of Kalkaska County with its billboards. The billboards were paid for by a SAMHSA Grant through Prevention Network. Each billboard has had a different message every month. The messages focused on the risks of substance use, keeping our youth safe, and recognizing the connection between root causes and substance use disorders. A focus of Live Well Kalka
